Free or Servant?
"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
They answered him, we... were never in bondage to any man...
Jesus answered them... Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin."
- John 8:32-34

I've often thought of righteousness as progress. Live according to the commandments and you progress. Sin, and you are stopped. Thus the term, damnation. 'Damming' is stopping flow. Sin is lack of progress. Just a thought.
Damn you.
I've always understood being "damned" as being cut off from God's presence. In the next life that means not living with Him - or not having Eternal Life (which, by definition, is God's life, or the type of life He lives). I've never thought of being "damned" in the context of mortality - or the stage of life we are currently in - but if it does apply to this life, I suppose it means being cut off communication-wise. In any case, being ensnared in sin means being in bondage to Satan, and if we are in bondage to Satan, how open (and free-flowing, to use your analogy) could our lines of communication be with God?
