Fourth of July Moroni Fun Run
In typical Sanpete County fashion, all fun run participants were milling around 'close to' the starting line, catching up with old friends, and what not, when the 'starter' yelled "GO" and started the clock. My usual strategy is to start in the back of the pack anyway - this way no one passes me up and I pass a few scrubs along the way - so that was pretty much OK.
If you've seen the photos of Joe or John's marathons, you've seen the spectators lined up to watch and cheer the runners. Well - I am not making this up - in the fun run we go past several turkey farms, and the turkeys line up along the poultry fence and watch as we all run by; and their gobbles are Sanpete County's equivilant to cheering us on. I couldn't help but smile.
After doing the fun run in Ephraim with Eric and Joe about a month ago - during which, I thought my lungs were going to burst open with flames shooting out - I decided to suppress the adrenelin and run a comfortable pace pushing myself just ever-so-slightly. The last quarter mile I pushed harder and finished strong (meaning no house wives pushing strollers, nor little kids passed me up). My time for the 5K was 28:33 - 19 seconds faster than my Ephraim fun run time. I've expected better times because I've been running 12 1/2 miles a week (3 miles twice a week and 6 1/2 once per), but am somewhat satisfied that I can do it at all, considering all the AARP mail I get these days.

Is that a picture of you or the turkey? Keep on runnin!
Whoa, that's a lot of runnin'. I don't think I've ever run 6.5 miles in one stretch in my life.
You've never run that far before?

I did once. I just barely missed the Icecream truck, the only problem was that it was the end of his route. I ran behind him all the way to his house. The things I'll do for a frozen Ninja Turtle with Bubble Gum eyes.
The longest I had run before February 20, 2007 was 3.2 miles. Three months later I ran 26.5 miles.
It was the weirdest 3 months of my life - with the possible exception of the first three months of my mission.
