2009 Spike Elk Hunt - Part Deux
The saga continues. Here is Dave glassing for elk on the second to the last day of the hunt. He bagged his four days earlier, so he's just out helping me.
Here is the Weatherby .300 magnum that did the deed on the last day.
Here's Dave listening to a spike bugle.

Sunrise on the last day of the hunt, near Mt Nebo.

Looking southwest from Permission Point.
The stand of aspens on the hilltop in the right of this photo is where my spike went down.
There are thirty elk in the stand of trees you see here. Without binoculars I couldn't see them either.
Zoomed out view of same. That's Mt Nebo off in the distance just shy of 12,000 feet. I'm sitting atop a ridge at about 8,000 feet. This was my view when I took the shot.
With this yearling bull weighing in at probably 500 pounds I finally found a mammal that weighs more than me.
Just to the right of the middle of the three trees seen here, and on top of the ridge is where I sat for an hour or more looking for a good shot. Finally, from an estimated 400 yards plus I squeezed the trigger and dropped him like a rock. Only took one shot.

Sweet story! There are several pictures here that would look great framed. I really like the ones with the clouds moving through the mountains like a misty haze. One of my favorites is the first one with David glassing. That would be a great wall mount, a fine addition to a trophy room.

Awesome. Makes me want to go out again. Oh wait, I am. Nov. 14 through Dec. 31. Late season elk hunt. Cha-ching!
