2009 Spike Elk Hunt - Part Deux

The saga continues. Here is Dave glassing for elk on the second to the last day of the hunt. He bagged his four days earlier, so he's just out helping me.

The stand of aspens on the hilltop in the right of this photo is where my spike went down.












There are thirty elk in the stand of trees you see here. Without binoculars I couldn't see them either.






Zoomed out view of same. That's Mt Nebo off in the distance just shy of 12,000 feet. I'm sitting atop a ridge at about 8,000 feet. This was my view when I took the shot.





With this yearling bull weighing in at probably 500 pounds I finally found a mammal that weighs more than me.




















Just to the right of the middle of the three trees seen here, and on top of the ridge is where I sat for an hour or more looking for a good shot. Finally, from an estimated 400 yards plus I squeezed the trigger and dropped him like a rock. Only took one shot.
