My supermodel wife scraping up the evil old flooring.
Scrape and sweep.
Scrape and sweep.
Scrape and sweep.
Scrape and sweep.
Scrape and sweep.
Scrape and sweep.
Scrape and sweep.
Scrape and sweep.
We tried every tactic we could think of. In the end, once you get down to the paper backing that's glued to the concrete, soaking it with water allows for much easier removal - but still requires scraping by hand.
After removing the crapper (named after British plumber Thomas Crapper), don't forget to plug the pipe with a rag to avoid the sewer odors from permeating the whole house. In this case, I used my personal bath towel. I'll wash it and it will be fine.
